What class should I start with GW2? ›

Guardian, Ranger, and Necromancer in their Core builds are the easiest and most forgivable classes for a beginner. Don't jump into e-specs until you grasp the game, because they do add a degree of complexity that you need game knowledge to use correctly.

There are nine professions, each with a unique style and theme to their combat approach which is emphasized by the use of an important profession-specific mechanic and access to different skill types and effects.

Daredevil is a lot of fun, flipping all over the place and damaging foes even with your dodge. Holosmith is a great deal of fun. The 5 skill that sends all the mobs flying is hilarious. Melee Mirage has a wonderful playstyle zipping around, constantly dodging, and spamming clones.

I think thief and warrior type classes tend to draw a lot of new players that don't want to do anything too complicated. In PVE, Ranger. In PVP, Guardian. Guardian could literally press every button on it's keyboard in a group fight without a single thought, and it would more than likely be a great asset to it's team.

To summarize, the Guardian is the easiest and most versatile profession. Still, the Ranger and Necromancer are excellent alternatives, particularly if you want a pet or minions to aid you in combat.
